The Independent is revamping its weekend product as part of an

ongoing drive to increase sales.

The changes, which affect both the Saturday and Sunday papers, will be

unveiled this weekend.

They will include a new Saturday magazine called The Information, a

redesign of the Sunday Review, upgraded sport and business coverage and

a new typeface.

In addition, the editorial stance will mirror that of the redesigned

week-day Independent.

Under the editorship of Simon Kelner, who joined from Associated

Newspapers earlier this year, the paper has attempted to appeal more to

the mid-market.

Meanwhile, The Independent has continued to beef up its advertising

sales team.

Simon Clarke, a group head at The Guardian, is joining as display ad

controller.

The paper’s commercial director, Steve Miron, is also looking for a

display advertising director.
