Monday
Mornings are always busy in my house with two kids to get up and out to school, so I clear through the overnight emails before they wake and catch up on the industry news feeds.
I make it in the office for about half past eight. I take a certain pride in being able to make an excellent coffee and the Italian coffee machine at UKTV’s HQ is always my first port of call.
I start every week by sitting down with my exec team and going through the week ahead. I'm reminded to prepare for Thursday evening when we have Deloitte coming in to use our great, creative office space for the official launch of its new white paper on digital leadership.
Today we have a major US Studio coming in to talk to us about some hit series that are looking for a new home – these could be game changers for some of our channels so there’s a heightened sense of excitement in the room, the team is well prepared to share our success stories and impress.
Before they get here though, I have a meeting with our UKTV Play team – having recently launched on Android we now need to work on a bigger marketing and comms strategy to make sure our viewers know where to find our content.
We are seeing some amazing results with this product, and as it's constantly innovating we gather an amazing team from across the company to make sure it continues to delight viewers.
I'm off out tonight to the premiere of a new show for Dave, Ross Noble Freewheeling, at Twitter’s HQ – it's the perfect venue for this show which is completely created around Ross’s Twitter following.
He speaks in glowing terms about UKTV taking a risk on a TV show that has no format, and all the attendees seemed to enjoy the show.
Tuesday
It’s a busy start and my first stop is a meeting with the top brass at Channel 4 with whom we have a fantastic partnership.
With the start of a new year it’s good to sit down and look at how we can work closer together – Channel 4 runs our ad sales so we have to make sure our teams are working as efficiently as possible.
After that I pop into an edit in Soho where we are working on a new show with David Hasselhoff. Instead of just looking at the first episode, I end up watching pretty much the whole season together with UKTV’s director of commissioning, Richard Watsham.
It's 3pm before I get back into the office and my diary is blissfully clear for a few hours, so I can wander around and catch up with people in a more ad hoc way, which I much prefer to repetitive meetings.
We have so much amazing creativity going on at UKTV that walking around here always energises me.
Wednesday
Today I'm off into town again to spend the day with some of the senior managers of UKTV. We have got our Best Companies results in – today is about looking at the data in great detail and learning where we did especially well and what we still need to concentrate on.
I want UKTV to be a place where every individual does the best work of their careers and for that to happen we are always looking for ways to improve.
UKTV’s current success (we are still the fastest growing broadcaster in the UK) is down to its unique culture and its people, so today is extremely important to me.
Thursday
I hold a Channel Product Meeting on a Thursday morning with my direct reports and the general managers of our channels together with our director of commissioning.
Our first quarter of 2015 is strong with our channel’s share of viewing up 7.2% year to date and there's a lively discussion over how we further exceed our targets this year.
The best possible way for us to excite our audience is with brand new content which we commission ourselves, but naturally this involves much higher risks in terms of hit rate.
General managers carefully consider and debate their channel’s mix of acquired programming versus commissioned – it’s a great group of people and we need to have those important discussions. A programme investment meeting later and I’m very ready for lunch.
It's the Deloitte event tonight at which I’m speaking along with senior executives from Facebook and Bloomberg. The subject, How to attract, retain, and inspire new digital native talent", is a topic I'm really passionate about, and together with some great data from Deloitte and a great guest list it should be a successful event with useful insight and thinking.
Friday
A brilliant event last night which has left the office buzzing today – a good end to the week.
I have an Innovation Pot meeting today which is where anyone in the company can pitch for funds for innovative, breakthrough projects and ideas.
It's like Dragons Den, but without the expensive suits and it’s a collaborative, supportive discussion as well as a great mentoring opportunity for me to help support members of the team with great ideas.
The Innovation Pot has given rise to some truly great and original ideas which have the chance to be aired without being suffocated in financial processes.
I'm off to a CSR meeting this afternoon about the bike ride we are doing this year from London to Versailles for our chosen charity GIST – a good reason to get on Wiggle.co.uk and order some more upgrades for my bike this weekend.
The lowdown
Age: A child of the 60sFavourite media: Radio Paradise (which drives the rest of my family crazy as it's on all weekend)

Not a lot of people know this about me... I recently took up cycling and completed a 24-hour London to Paris ride. This year I'm participating in UKTV's charity bike ride from London to Versailles for GIST and we can be sponsored at
