Thanks to my husband, I often wake up to the sounds of an African rainforest. Weird tropical bird noises and jungle rustles fill the bedroom at 6.30am, courtesy of Resonance104.4FM.
Next up is Five’s double bill of Noddy, chosen by our two-yearold son. It’s not until I am in the car that I make my first media choice, which is Christian O’Connell (himself a former BBC magazines sales executive) on Xfm. In my opinion, he is still by far the best of the breakfast bunch! Working on Top Gear, I’m obliged to take just about every motoring and men’s lifestyle magazine. Funnily enough, the men’s mags get pinched quickly – seems like the saucier the better, so I rarely see the likes of Loaded or Front. I make sure I hang onto GQ though – by far the best in its market.
And you’ll groan when you read this, but I’ve also started to read the new-look Top Gear by choice, thanks to our inspirational new editor Michael Harvey. I’m a bit of a magazines junkie and aside from magazines in my own marketplace, I will read Eve and Living etc religiously.
I close the evening with Newsnight when I can. I have been a big Paxman fan ever since I sent him a job brief for a classified sales exec on the internal e-mail, in error, and received an hilarious response.
I don’t get time for a newspaper during the week, but I’ll spend Sunday with The Observer, followed by the News of the World for some light relief.
If Sky have got the Newcastle United game on a Sunday, that’s my weekend complete.
