Ryan O’Shea studied film and TV production at the University of Greenwich, became a kit room assistant and then worked across reality TV shows including The Apprentice and a number of live TV events, where he gained valuable skills and contacts.
He then set up a limited company as a sideline to expand his experience and secured work with Unilad on some of its biggest campaigns, providing production and kit expertise, before seeing the potential in social media. He founded Cowshed Social in 2019 with a friend, with the aim of reinventing how branded content is created, viewed and shared.
Initially a production company, Cowshed Social now offers social strategy, creative and production for some of the biggest brands in the world, as well as having its own talent department, creating content for the likes of Chunkz, Beta Squad and Adebayo Akinfenwa. From a headcount of two in 2019, Cowshed Social has grown to a team of almost 40 staff.
O’Shea is also keen to widen opportunities for women in the media industry and says he is acutely aware that women may be put off coming to work in a male-dominated industry. Judges said O’Shea was an “entrepreneur with a great track record and growth”.
