Stylist's success hinges on an intimate understanding of its readers, summed up by these words: "You know what I'm thinking before I do." Features editor Meena Alexander recognised that readers had changed during the pandemic, and that Stylist’s understanding of its audience had to be stronger than ever. She also believes Stylist can be the proof that print magazines have just as bright a future as digital.
Alexander gathered countless perspectives, posting questions on Instagram Stories and invited readers to take part in discussions in Facebook groups, leading to a clear insight: people were grappling with the big questions.
A slate of zeitgeist-defining cover features followed. In “The Great Reset: Why We Fell Out Of Love With The Career Ladder”, Alexander investigated people’s changing relationship with ambition, which shot to the top of Apple News' Best Of The Month list. “Maybe, Baby: The Rise of Motherhood Ambivalence” was Stylist’s most successful cover to date for converting new subscribers. Alexander also launched the #AFearlessFuture campaign, in the wake of the death of Sarah Everard.
Judges said Alexander’s “passion and energy shines through and she sees the power and challenges of print”.
