The new-look Sunday Times goes on sale on September 8. In addition to the relaunch of Style magazine, the changes will include the launch of a standalone motoring section, Driving. The 32-page tabloid supplement will be edited by Nick Gardner and will feature advice from trade experts and consumer champions as well as columnist Jeremy Clarkson
The sports section, which until now has included a section on motoring will see pagination increased to 28 pages. Former England cricket captain David Gower, former model and England rugby union international Jeremy Guscott and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel have been signed up as contributors.
The changes take the number of supplements which make up The Sunday Times package to 13. However, according to Andrew Mullins, marketing director for The Times and The Sunday Times, the supplements are intended to be kept and read throughout the week.
The new-look paper will be supported by a TV ad campaign by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R with media by Carat.
The revamp of The Sunday Times package forms part of a strategy by Mullins and senior management at News International to focus less on promotions aimed at enticing readers from other titles, and more on encouraging lapsed newspaper readers back into the market by investing in the product.
