Media Planning Group wins Carrefour across Europe

PARIS - French supermarket group Carrefour has awarded the bulk of its media planning and buying business across Europe to the Havas-owned Media Planning Group.

The appointment of MPG as its media agency follows Carrefour's decision last week to award its £120m advertising account in France to Euro RSCG France.

The Havas ad agency won the business after a pitch against incumbent Publicis and WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather. The win sees Europe RSCG pick up responsibility for all the supermarket chain's marketing communications.

The media win extends beyond France and covers Switzerland, Turkey and Poland. MPG already handled Carrefour's business in Spain and Portugal.

The business had previously been handled by Aegis Group's Carat media network. Carat Paris won the business three years ago in a pitch against MPG and WPP's MindShare Paris.

The account does not include Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy and Greece, which will remain with Carat.
