MEDIA: MVC agrees sponsorship deal with VH1

MVC, the Kingfisher-owned high street music and entertainment retailer, has signed a three-year, £900,000 sponsorship deal with VH1, covering the channel's flagship programmes The Album Chart and VH1 Recommends.

MVC hopes the package, VH1's largest promotional deal ever, will enable it to reach music fans through brands that complement the retailer's offering.

The deal, which begins on October 15, was brokered by Viacom Brand Solutions together with Illumination. It is the first time either programme has been sponsored.

As well as credits around The Album Chart, the only TV chart show devoted to album sales, and VH1 Recommends, a programme exploring the latest releases, the package is likely to include in-store branding.

Roose & Partners created the tongue-in-cheek credits. These are filmed in an MVC store and feature a fly-on-the-wall look at shop staff discussing the merits of various bands and albums.

The films aim to convey that while MVC knows all there is to know about music, it is not an elitist brand.

The package is MVC's sponsorship debut, though the retailer has since signed another £850,000 contract with Emap Advertising.

This involves sponsorship of Q Rated on Q Television and K10 on Kerrang! TV, with more than 60 credits also created by Roose & Partners.
