Media man quits Adidas following exit of ads chief

Adidas global media chief Jason Dawes has left the sportswear giant just two months after the resignation of international advertising head Nicholas Baddour.

Dawes has left Adidas for an undisclosed role elsewhere, prompting the promotion of Richard Prenderville to take on his responsibilities for Adidas international media planning and buying.

The change coincides with the hiring of Mark Philips as senior advertising manager. He replaces Arthur Hoeld, who has become global communications manager at Adidas' head office. Philips joins from Havas-owned advertising agency Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper Partners.

He will work with Amsterdam agency 180, which is responsible for Adidas' global campaigns, running at the moment to promote the Rugby World Cup. The TV ads feature Adidas-sponsored stars David Beckham and Jonny Wilkinson.

Adidas said it has not yet decided whether to replace Baddour, who left his role as head of global brand concepts and advertising senior vice-president in August (Marketing, August 7).

Adidas gained further exposure over the weekend when Beckham's penalty in the Euro 2004 Qualifier against Turkey flew over the crossbar to resemble a Wilkinson-style conversion kick.
