JC Decaux and Glasgow-based Trainer Outdoor Advertising have formed
a joint venture to tender for street-furniture contracts in
Scotland.
The deal could result in more innovative styles of poster sites for
Scotland, such as those Decaux has pioneered in France and England.
The new 50/50 partnership, TrainerDecaux, is part of a strategy by
French-owned Decaux to assume a more Scottish identity to pitch for
contracts in the country. The deal will allow Trainer to tap into
Decaux’s design resources, while Decaux will benefit from Trainer’s
contacts within the Scottish authorities.
The Scottish outdoor market, which is worth pounds 30m, is predicted to
expand significantly.
Trainer’s managing director, Chris Trainer, said: ’JC Decaux can meet
Scotland’s need for street-furniture designs of the highest
quality.’
Trainer claims to have 29% of Scottish outdoor advertising revenue and
owns over 41% of Scotland’s 96-sheet poster sites.
JC Decaux’s chief executive, Jean-Francois Decaux, said: ’We recognise
that Scotland has a distinct business and cultural environment, a fact
which will become more evident with the creation of the new
Parliament.’
TrainerDecaux is seeking to win Strathclyde Council’s street-furniture
contract in the early part of next year.
More Group Scotland, which currently holds the contract, has handed
responsibility for re-tendering to managing director Andy Neal, recently
recruited from his previous position as consumer marketing director of
spirits at United Distillers.
