Along with 27,000 subscribers, I received my 'limited-edition' copy of Wallpaper's 10th anniversary issue in a black embossed box with the title's iconic asterisk in Swarovski crystals on the cover. It set the tone for celebrating the international design magazine's birthday.
The overall theme of cutting-edge design continues to be nicely balanced with lifestyle content on a variety of subjects, from architecture to fashion to travel, to make it a far more accessible read than in its early years. In this special issue, Portfolio is among the highlights, with the world's major fashion designers exclusively photographed with the architects who inspire them. Other extras include a pull-out poster featuring events and design trends of the past decade - which will be encouraging for Bespoke, Wallpaper's new creative-solutions department.
Thanks to its quality content and high production values, Wallpaper has firmly established itself as the premium design title, both in the UK and internationally. The challenge will be to maintain its edgy feel that resonates with so many affluent and influential decision-makers in the design industry without alienating others. On this issue's showing, it's now getting that balance just right.
