Time Out is the daddy of all listing guides. Hoteliers should put a
copy of it in the top drawer of every hotel room in London because this
is the bible.
It's come a long way since it was started in 1968 by a student using
pounds 75 given to him by an aunt. It's now read by more than 400,000
people.
I love its fuzzy neon logotype masthead, and its uncluttered listings
layout is an excellent example of honest information design.
OK I'm a London nut. Give me a Time Out and a free weekend and I reckon
I could come up with an itinerary to compete with any other capital
city.
Some time ago, a blind date came out with the line: "I hate Time
Out.
You open the pages and it bombards you with so many options it makes you
feel guilty. I spent last winter indoors." We never met again.
