It was good to see Richard and Judy back on our screens last Monday
for their eponymous show.
Despite moving from coffee time to teatime, and channel three to Channel
Four, the format was welcoming and familiar for This Morning fans.
Certainly the ITV1 show has suffered since they departed in July, with
viewing down a third and a string of talent attempting to reign as the
King and Queen of daytime.
Could they cope with six months out and returning to a different
slot?
The competition from Auntie was tough with a special edition of The
Weakest Link on BBC2 and Neighbours on BBC1. However, the preceding
Countdown provides a robust audience for the programme to inherit.
The magazine-style show had the usual phone-ins, competitions, guests
and features. I enjoyed the 'Think Yourself Fit' segment and there was a
great video of a man who could alter his face.
But it missed the lifestyle sections with cookery and gardening, and
where was Fred and his map?
The pair are known to have wanted a harder, more topical edge to the
show, but I am not sure they got there in this first programme.
C4's viewing share fell slightly week-on-week, however, the show did
better than the slot average of 1.7 million viewers, achieving 2.2
million.
But Ms Robinson trounced them with 4.5 million; perhaps C4 should target
Wales.
