The latest mouth-watering morsel in televisual treats is as easy as
a recipe from Delia’s How to Cook. This is the refreshing and unique
proposition of ONdigital. No dishes, cables or complicated contracts,
just a plug in and go system, designed to relieve the punter of pounds
200 in exchange for a more fulfilling indulgence of the UK’s number one
leisure pursuit.
As a committed couch potato, last weekend I followed the four steps
guaranteed to keep me glued to the box more than usual.
Steps one and two, buying the decoder and taking it home were bypassed
due to the assistance of Carlton, which delivered the necessaries to my
flat. Step three, plug it in, and step four you’re ONdigital. It worked,
although I had a few concerns about the picture quality.
In fairness, this was my fault. If I hadn’t had Nintendo 64, a video and
a Sky system connected to the TV everything would have been hunky dory.
So I disconnected and then reconnected everything.
Bingo, it all works, and it looks and sounds great. The on-screen
channel guide looks pretty elegant and once the text and information
services are functioning, this looks like an excellent new choice. Who
knows, next weekend I might watch Carlton Food Network to discover how
to peel the boiled egg that Delia kindly showed me how to cook.
