My first discovery was that The X-Files will be at the heart of its line-up, airing each night at 8pm. Great, another sci-fi channel. However, on further investigation, I discovered that FX289 could offer a great deal more.
The 10pm to midnight slot will mainly feature programmes new to the UK, such as Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, The Man Show and Mind of the Married Man. The latter is a successful show from the US which is a must for any man who is, was, or plans to get hitched. This cruel, honest and hilarious take on the modern marriage from a decidedly male perspective is compulsory viewing.
Any worries that the channel will be too high-brow were laid to rest by the announcement of The Man Show. From what I can gather, it is a shameless celebration of all things male.
So will I be watching this 'all things male' channel? I am not sure.
I get the impression it's for men with children who want that one last go at being one of the lads - a category I am not ready to fulfil.
However, the appeal of a station that is positive about all things male is destined to gain some element of loyal male viewers.
