At first count, we have two gay men, one lesbian, two bisexual women, a transexual, a token black person and an Asian who is also conveniently homophobic. Before the series started, many believed this edition might be the last. The format is looking stale, even if this version is 'Evil Big Brother', the house is smaller and 12 contestants are being forced to sleep in one 10-bed room.
I was also initially sceptical about the sponsorship by another phone company, but TalkTalk seems a good fit, playing on the association of phones with the voting system. But the much-publicised Trojan ad was over-hyped and did not live up to its PR.
As for this year's contestants, there is already a sexual frisson. Michelle and Victor have indicated an interest in each other and the mud wrestling allowed everyone to get intimate.
Revelations about Emma's sexuality and Kitten's past have made the headlines.
If the old 'sex sells' adage rings true for Channel 4 then headlines are sure to continue and viewers will follow.
