Although the screens have already been installed, CBS (formally know as Viacom) has been unable to switch them on. Industry insiders have been told it could be four to six weeks before the problems are ironed out.
Last December, the outdoor advertising company announced the extension of its digital escalator panels to a further four Tube stations - Euston, Charing Cross, Paddington and Bond Street - in addition to the existing site at Tottenham Court Road.
Despite the difficulties, agencies have responded positively to the opportunity. Advertisers that have already used the screens include Ribena, which promoted the launch of its Really Light Blueberry flavour last summer at the Tottenham Court Road site.
In contrast, Clear Channel's digital outdoor screens have been criticised for their poor quality and some leading media specialists have decided against using them (Marketing, 18 October).
Andrew Oldham, chief operating officer at CBS Outdoor, said: 'Our digital escalator panels are fully installed at Paddington and ready to go. Once we receive final approval for switch-on, the sites will be immediately connected to the entire digital network.'
