MEDIA BRIEFS: BBC reportedly mounts campaign
The BBC is reportedly mounting a campaign to win back live rights to Premier League matches on the back of European Commission moves to end Sky's television monopoly on screening live matches. Sky's three-year deal expires at the end of the 2003/2004 season. Neil Blackley, the outgoing Merill Lynch media analyst, has warned of a "dire" decline in the media industry, claiming the current recession is as bad as the economic crisis of the early-70s.
