Asleep in the back
Bitch was lucky enough to be invited to the celestial highs (or possibly lows) of St Paul's Cathedral Crypt this week to see festival perennials Elbow play a special gig as part of Absolute Radio's live music events, 'Absolute Radio Live'.
Tucking into the cheese straws and dips (very retro) in the underground venue she found herself among a series of famous old corpses (and Chris Locke from Starcom and Chris Hayward from ZenithOptimedia) including Admiral Nelson and Sir Christopher Wren.
Introducing the Mercury Music Award winners, Absolute's Christian O'Connell flagged up the collecting buckets for the Teenage Cancer Trust and urged the crowd to "dig deep" for the charity, insisting that the proceeds would not go towards "buying the station" (which is currently up for sale).
Bitch was also slightly put off by lead singer Guy Garvey's insistence in gargling Aloe Vera "the stuff they put in shampoo" to help his voice, but was happy to mingle with the great and good of media, which also included Absolute's advertising director Paul Carolan, Q editor Paul Rees and Daily Mirror and Observer columnist Miranda Sawyer.
However, Bitch was a little disturbed to overhear one prominent managing director of a top 10 agency proclaim that Elbow were "alright to listen to at home", but had sent him to sleep on the train home, costing him £100 in a cab back to his house when he missed his destination by several stops.
The Only Way is MediaCom
It was a busy night last night, and because of a clash with Bitch's socialite diary and her attendance at the Elbow gig, she missed what seems to be the agency event of the year (but had her spies there).
As part of an ongoing series of events with media owners, which have previously included Google, MediaCom played host to cast members of her absolute favourite show 'TOWIE' (The Only Way is Essex).
When asking around the media yesterday, Bitch was mostly confronted with bewilderment - "aren't the cast in Marbella, I saw it in The Sun today?"
However, apparently the event was attended by 'TOWIE' regulars Nanny Pat, Harry Derbidge (Bitch's fantasy socialising boyfriend) and Billy Faiers, who judged several contests among the WPP agency’s staff.
With cocktails and manicures on the bill for the do, organised by ITV.com, Bitch is devastated she missed out.
Talk of one senior member of MediaCom staff being offered a "Vajazzle" have not, however, been confirmed.
Break a leg, Liam
News comes to Bitch that one of her favourites, Liam Mullins, head of press at media agency the7stars had a rather unfortunate accident this week, which was made worse by it happening in front of a host of graduate trainees, which had, up until he tripped over the carpet, been "enthralled" by his media buying prowess.
Bitch hears Liam now sports a rather fetching balloon-like ankle, and a slightly bruised ego.
Idle gossip that Liam has been going for regular trips to the7stars' local restaurant Barrica to have the "odd" glass of Spanish red wine to "ease the pain" are, Bitch is sure, exactly that from her source at the independent agency
