Media Bitch's Diary 15 April

This week Bitch is with the Nathan Barleys at Glue, measures the Mindshare testosterone, searches for The Ring with Dr Who and witnesses Sir Mart's firing power.

Glue Isobar: a little too Nathan Barley?

Oh, the irony

Not often Bitch receives word from too-cool-for-school Shoreditch, but she was surprised at the theme of digital agency Glue Isobar’s moving offices party from its East London base.

The theme at the agency, headed up by Mark Cridge (pictured below), was a heavily "ironic" take on the agency’s surroundings, she’s told, with the theme of the Shoreditch Tw@t magazine and Nathan Barley a clear influence on the party.

Bitch doesn’t mean to be unkind, but are you guys really being "ironic"? She’s seen a lot of you in her days in meeja, and the bumfluff moustaches, skinny jeans and vintage trainers don’t exactly scream fashion credibility.

Macho Marathon Men

Bitch must say she’s impressed with the fitness fanatics at WPP-owned agency Mindshare, with Paul "Rowley" Rowlinson (pictured), the head of the agency’s Exchange trading division, and business director Luke Carmichael, flexing their muscles to attempt to complete the Dorset-based Oner race.

The event is described as a "triple coastal marathon" run with a 24-hour deadline and only open to 100 people, with the warning that the "weak need not apply". Bitch isn’t sure if that last bit applies to the participants’ physical or mental health, but she’s sure they’re going to need to be in top form in both departments, as this is only a WARM UP for their trip to the Himalayas in November. Bitch can smell the testosterone from here – she gets a stitch just running down the road to hail a taxi.

Normally, Bitch would put her hands together for David Fenton and Rob Cocker at Mindshare Exchange and Hannah Biscombe of Mindshare’s Team Age UK, for attempting the London Marathon this weekend, but you seem to have been top-trumped by these boys.

Not that Bitch is so mean, but some Deep Heat in the trainers always does the treat for a bit of revenge guys.

Nomad men, just luvvies

This week, Bitch attended the launch of Nomad, the portable cinema that is being rolled out across the country as a partnership between cinema advertising company Pearl and Dean and car marque Saab, and if she thinks meeja is full of luvvies, it was nothing compared to this bash.

Held at Kings College Chapel on the Strand, and attended by Kathryn Jacob, Pearl and Dean CEO, the guest list read like the Rada home for ligging actors, all drinking champagne and watching Gorgeous George Clooney in ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’.

Not confirming or denying his upcoming role in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit film, or whether he was out searching for the ring, was former Dr Who, Sylvester McCoy, along with Jeremy Irvine (the lead in Steven Speilberg’s new film’ War Horse’), Sean Foley (Olivier award winner, darling) and Christina Chong, also of Dr Who.

The Dr Who pairing must have felt at home being transported back to the past, watching a film you can now get in the DVD bin at Blockbuster for £2.99.

Sir Mart’s young apprentice

Bitch is impressed with City AM, the freesheet that has managed to pull in WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell to be one of 12 judges to pick the top performers at this year’s City AM awards, but she’s a bit worried about the losers of the awards and how they’ll be dispatched.

If rumours are true, some time ago Sir Mart was approached to host a certain reality show now hosted by Alan "call me Lord" Sugar.

Bitch hopes that after the tough times that everyone in the City has had over the past few years (don’t worry, she hasn’t shed too many tears for the bail-out boys) that they’re not greeted with the immortal words: "You’re fired!"
