Malm Hallqvist, who will take up the role in November, will report to Bob Kantor, chief marketing and business development officer at MDC. She will focus on growth and collaboration opportunities for the network and serve as the central contact for its agencies in Europe, which include Crispin Porter & Bogusky, 72andSunny, Anomaly and the recently-acquired Swedish shop Forsman & Bodenfors.
Kantor said: "We are not new to the European market, but we have only barely begun to realise our potential, reach and capabilities as a global player.
"With Lotta’s dedicated focus on Europe, we can better capitalise on new and emerging opportunities for MDC and our agencies."
Since 2015 Malm Hallqvist has held the position of president and global chief growth officer at Cheil Worldwide. She co-founded the agency Propaganda in 1997 and sold it to McCann in 2000, where she became executive vice president and global chief growth officer in 2011. She has also worked at Mother London.
"This market has yet to see the full strength of the [MDC] network or appreciate its stark contrast to the legacy models of its peers," Malm Hallqvist said in a statement.
US-based MDC appointed Scott Kauffman as chief executive last year. He replaced following an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission into his expenses.
Kauffman said: "With the addition of Lotta to our global team, we are committed to advancing our model in support of the global ambitions of our clients and agencies."
