The concept restaurant is based in Milton Keynes and showcases a new style of layout ,with  features including the use of iPads, digitally projected games, children's play areas, and a mini climbing wall.

If successful, the new-look McDonald's could be rolled out to the rest of the burger chain's 1,200 UK estate.

McDonald's currently offers its customers a children's eating area and children's menu, but it is now looking to ramp up its offering to kids.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "This restaurant is only a pilot. It represents the evolution of the eating-out experience for the family, which is very important to us as we are a very family orientated organisation."

McDonald's latest foray into upgrading its estate follows its decision to up the number of McDonald's which are open 24 hours a day.

Round-the-clock McDonald’s first debuted in 2006 and now make up around a third, 401, of its UK restaurants.  More 24/7 restaurants are expected to follow.

The move comes as McDonald's announces that it is creating at least 2,500 new jobs across the UK later this year.

The increase in job numbers means that McDonald's will have a total UK workforce of 90,000.

The fast-food chain claims that 30% of the jobs created will go to first-time workers. More than half are expected to go to young people under 25.

Separately, McDonald's global operations has reported annual revenues of $27bn (£17.35m)
