Nectar is about to unveil the global fast-food chain as one of its first tranche of reward partners ahead of the scheme's launch, which Marketing has learned will be mid-September.
It will be the first time McDonald's has participated in such a marketing tie-up in the UK, though it has run one-off travel promotions in conjunction with schemes such as Buy & Fly.
A McDonald's spokeswoman said the Nectar link was speculation, while Nectar's backer, Loyalty Management UK (LMUK), refused to comment.
Virgin Atlantic, Lunn Poly and Argos are also set to sign up as redemption partners, along with other companies in the hotels, restaurants, airline, cinema and leisure sectors.
LMUK hopes to sign up half the UK population through a £50m marketing blitz.
