McDonald's CEO extends invite through Leo Burnett ad

LONDON - McDonald's CEO Andrew Taylor will be inviting people to inspect the kitchens of the restaurant chain where he has worked for the past 25 years, in a new advertising campaign created by Leo Burnett.

The ads break today and run to June 8, ahead of the company's second Open Doors day on June 16.

It shows Taylor walking through the kitchen of one of McDonald's restaurants in south London. He talks about what goes on in a McDonald's kitchen, but tells the audience "Don't take my word for it", inviting them to the Open Doors day. The spot ends with the "I'm lovin' it" strapline that was introduced last year.

Adults and over-10s who are accompanied by adults can participate in the tour by booking via McDonald's customer service line. However, the company is insisting that all visitors will have to wear non-slip, covered in shoes, head cover and an apron, and, bizarrely, "comfortable but loose fitting clothing" during the tour.

It is the second open day held by McDonald's, following the success of last October's event. This year's June 16 open day falls in the middle of Food Safety Week.

Taylor said: "A lot of people ask me what goes on behind the scenes in a McDonald's restaurant, particularly the ingredients we use, so now it's our opportunity to fling open the kitchen doors and let the public see for themselves.

"We are looking forward to showing people how it all works behind the scenes, from the recipes for our new salads to how we make the famous Big Mac," he said.

Media for the campaign is through OMD.
