McCann Erickson confirms expansion of Howell's role

LONDON - McCann Erickson has confirmed that Rupert Howell is to take on an expanded role heading the agency's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, three months after rumours that he was being sidelined.

Howell has been named regional director of McCann Worldgroup EMEA, taking over from David Warden, who is to retire in December.

Howell joined the agency two years ago as chairman of McCann Erickson UK & Ireland and president of the EMEA region -- roles that he will continue to work in.

At the same time, McCann Erickson said that Giuseppe Usuelli, chairman and CEO of McCann Erickson Italy, has been assigned to the new role of chairman of McCann Worldgroup EMEA. He will also retain his other responsibilities.

The agency has also hired Jean-Marie Le Nail as executive vice-president and chief financial officer of McCann Worldgroup EMEA. He was previously at sister Interpublic agency Initiative Media and replaces Alistair Cook, who left earlier this year for what the company described as personal reasons.

John Dooner, CEO of McCann Worldgroup, said: "We have seen in recent years, under David's leadership, a significant expansion of our marketing communications business, including the number of units, accounts and major clients employing multiple disciplines. In order to continue the momentum, we are tapping into the experience and talents of two of our most dynamic and respected leaders."
