Mayor will apologise 'in fullness of time', says deputy

LONDON – Ken Livingstone will apologise 'in his own way and in his own time' for his allegedly anti-Semitic remarks to an Evening Standard reporter, according to the mayor's deputy Nicky Gavron.

Gavron told the Evening Standard that an apology would be forthcoming eventually as the pressure continues to pile on the London mayor. Yesterday Tony Blair added his weight to the debate, saying Livingstone should say sorry.

"People looking for [an apology] now may be disappointed, but it will happen – of that there is no doubt. Knowing Ken as I do, in the fullness of time he will says he regrets causing offence," Gavron said.

Livingstone may not make any public statement until Tuesday, when the International Olympic Committee has finished assessing London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.
