After 17 years Davies, who will step down from his position of group director of events on 1 January, has decided to explore new opportunities.

He leaves behind a lasting legency, and most importantly a strong team to continue the work he has started.

A stickler for quality during his time at Haymarket, Davies said: "It's very easy to cut corners and put on a cheap show with a badly lit set and there are plenty of companies who are prepared to do that. Haymarket was the perfect home for me during the years when the company was building up its portfolio of projects because it had, and still has similar quality standards relating to its published titles."

Haymarket managing director Jane Macken commented: "Matthew has made a significant contribution during his time with Haymarket not least in equipping his successor to be able to take on the challenge of our events proposition and develop the business further. I believe that Matthew will continue to make a contribution to the industry as an inspiring mentor to people wanting a career in events and with pursuing his own ambition."

Davies will launch his new company, Matthew Davies Events, in January 2011.
