Matalan aims for recognition with marketing rejig

Matalan, the value fashion and homeware retailer, has restructured its marketing team under marketing director Euan Sutherland as it attempts to become a nationally recognised brand.

The rejig sees the marketing department divided into five main groups: category and brand marketing, innovations, consumer insight, customer and marketing services and regional marketing.

Menswear buying controller Jamey Hargreaves has been promoted to director of category and brand marketing and will drive plans to market brands such as Lee Cooper and Falmer, acquired by Matalan over the past couple of years. Mark Craigie joins from Dixons as director of innovations.

Marketer Mike Morrison has been promoted to head of consumer insight.

Simon Webster, also from Dixons, is now customer and marketing services manager.

A manager for the remaining group regional marketing has yet to be appointed.

Matalan's annual results, released in February, saw sales up 44.6% to £847.4m and profit up 29.8% to £107.6m.
