Burgess has been with the FMCG company for around 20 years and is currently managing director for the iconic Marmite brand, as well as its Pot Noodle, Peperami, Bovril and Slim-Fasts brands.

He is now to move internally to a division that houses brands including Dove, Vaseline and Lux. It is unclear if he will be replaced in his current role.

Unilever’s skincare division has been expanded after last year's acquisition of the personal care division of Sara Lee, which includes Radox, Brylcreem and Sanex.

The role that Burgess will be moving to is thought to be a new one.

It is understood he will have responsibility for integrating some of the Sara Lee brands into Unilever’s existing skincare unit.

Unilever believes the Sara Lee products will complement its more upmarket brands, such as Dove.

A source confirmed that Burgess would be moving to the new role, but was not able to comment further.

Burgess will report to Matt Close, Unilever’s vice-president of marketing for its home and personal care division in the UK and Ireland.
