Marketing's editor set to join Publicis Blueprint

Craig Smith, the editor of Marketing, is stepping down to join customer publishing agency Publicis Blueprint in the new position of marketing director.

He takes up the role in January and joins the agency board with responsibility for marketing and leading brand strategy on new-business pitches. He will report to managing director Alastair Young.

Smith has edited Marketing for seven years, leading a far-reaching redesign of the magazine in 2004, for which it was recognised as PPA Business and Professional Magazine of the Year in 2005.

He is also author of the UK edition of Marketing for Dummies and a regular commentator on branding issues to national broadcast and print media.

Jason Frost, chief executive of Publicis Blueprint, said: 'Craig has long been a champion of the customer publishing industry and has a clear vision of how editorial content can connect clients with customers in the multi-platform future. He has an implicit understanding of brand positioning and one of the best contact books in the industry - he will be a great asset to Publicis Blueprint and its clients.'

Publicis Blueprint works with advertisers including Asda, Hewlett-Packard, Debenhams and Renault. It makes 20% of its revenue from digital content.
