The awards recognise design and brand-marketing agencies, consultancies and in-house teams that use design to keep brands leading-edge. This year’s Awards deadline has been extended to 6pm on 26 August.
Agency Checkland Kindleysides, whose work for Levi Strauss’ London Flagship Store won the Home Shopping & Retail category last year, said the award was a ‘great accolade.’
Abigail Lloyd-Jones, the agency’s head of PR, offers the following tips to those looking to enter this year.
"Examine your project thoroughly in terms of both the commercial and creative aspects and show how your design demonstrates your clients’ brand values and how it connects with consumers."
Tim Corvin, marketing director of Webb deVlam, whose Sprint campaign for ICI/Akzo Nobel won in the Consumer Durable category in 2010, says that while the entry requirements are fact-based, entrants should present their work in a way that is aesthetically pleasing.
Last year, The Cernis Collective won in the non-profit category for a campaign for the Manchester United Supporters Trust. Agency founder Justin Cernis said: "It's a prestigious award and it’s great to win – you've got to be in it to win it, so it's worth the effort. We won in our first year of operation so it was very special for us."
He advises entrants to demonstrate how the work helped meet a marketing need and to bring their ideas to life visually for the judges.
"Marketing is acutely aware of changes in the market place, in consumer attitudes, in product positioning and propositions," said Marketing editor Noelle McElhatton.
"Design is a keenly-edged tool to assist in the marketing tasks of securing share of voice, share of market, and, ultimately, a rightful share of profits. There are extraordinary talents at work in UK design and the Marketing Design Awards celebrate those talents."
The awards will be presented at a lunchtime event to be held on 1 November at the Grosvenor House hotel, London.
