Jones, who has been Marketing's acting editor since January, takes over the full role with immediate effect.

Previously, Jones was editor of Haymarket's monthly digital magazine Revolution, which was rolled into Marketing at the end of last year.

This is Jones' second stint on Marketing. He joined the magazine as digital editor in November 2006 before being promoted to the role of news editor in January 2008.

Jones said: "It's a privilege to be taking up the reins of such a well respected title during a time of almost limitless challenge and opportunity for marketers."

He takes over from Lucy Barrett, who in April decided not to return from maternity leave. She is now head of media relations at WPP-owned agency JWT.

Jones will continue in his role as editor of Revolution, which is now available as a standalone quarterly title exclusively to Marketing subscribers.
