Marge Simpson Playboy centrefold hits the newsstand

LONDON - A special edition of Playboy, celebrating 20 years of The Simpsons, goes on sale today featuring Marge Simpson on the cover, the first time the magazine has featured an animated character as a centrefold.

The Playboy cover illustration is designed to emulate a famous cover from 1971, while the feature inside takes the familiar form of standard centrefold images.

There is also a "handwritten" resume in which Marge lists her turn-ons as "enough saucers for your cups", while "men who work out regularly and take care of their bodies" are included in her turn-offs.

Playboy is perhaps best known for its pictures of naked women, despite featuring writers such as Margaret Atwood and Vladimir Nabokov.

Regular fans of the magazine may not be disappointed with the inclusion of a cartoon character. In one inside shot of Marge holding a plate of donuts illustrators have contrived to give her nipples.

Other famous "real" personalities to have posed for the magazine include Marilyn Monroe, Drew Barrymore and Darryl Hannah.

The Simpsons originally launched in 1987 as a series of sketches for the Tracey Ullman Show. It was only in 1989 that the characters were developed by Fox for their own show.
