Magazine ABCs: Men's Health leapfrogs Nuts to second spot in paid-for sector

Men's Health has overtaken Nuts to become the second-biggest paid-for men's magazine.

The NatMag Rodale title posted a circulation of 250,094, a 2% increase period on period, and a 4.1% increase year on year. Men's Fitness also posted an increase, rising 2.3% period on period to 67,160.

Alun Williams, publisher of Men's Health, said the monthly title has benefited from a cultural shift away from the typical 'lads' mags'. 'Readers have become disenchanted with pictures of the latest Big Brother wanna-be,' he added.

FHM retained its position as the leading paid-for title despite a 2.8% period-on-period drop in circulation to 272,545. IPC's Loaded fell by 5.6% to 90,071, while Dennis Publishing's Maxim was up 5.5% period on period at 45,951. However, it posted a hefty 41.1% year-on-year decline. IPC's weekly Nuts reported a circulation of 234,034, a drop of 6.4% year on year.

Conde Nast's GQ continued to chime with followers of fashion, with a circulation of 130,094, a period-on-period rise of 0.1%.
