The third to lose his job is marketing director Mark Dixon. So far there is news of only one replacement, as the Telegraph Group confirmed that David King, head of advertising at Smash Hits and Kiss FM owner Emap, is set to take over as the group commercial director later this week.
Payne, 43, has been with the Daily Telegraph for 18 years and has been commercial director since 2003. A replacement for Payne is expected to be announced tomorrow.
White-Smith, 40, has also spent 18 years at the paper and was only promoted to group sales director in 2003.
A Daily Telegraph spokesman said: "This is part of an ongoing management restructure to increase revenue at the Daily Telegraph. We are very pleased with the work Mark and Chris have done at the company and wish them well."
In October this year, the Telegraph Group's managing director Hugo Drayton became the first casualty of the Barclay brothers' £665m takeover and subsequent management shake-up instigated by MacLennan.
Later that month, John Allwood, executive vice-president of mobile giant Orange, quit to join the Telegraph Group as executive director alongside MacLennan, signalling big changes for the company.
