MacKenzie slams Rajar rejection of electronic meter

Wireless Group chairman Kelvin MacKenzie is threatening to sue Rajar after it rejected electronic measurement of radio audiences following a trial of two measures, including the wristwatches favoured by MacKenzie.

Rajar said its trials cast doubt over the accuracy of electronic meters and that the wristwatches had limited ability to distinguish between broadcast platforms such as DTV and DAB, as well as AM and FM signals.

Branding the rejection "a disgraceful decision made by vested interests behind closed doors", MacKenzie said he was considering a lawsuit against Rajar. "Rajar refuses to publish the results of its tests, but says the measures don't reach Rajar's gold standard," he said. Is that the gold standard that mixed up LBC on FM and LBC on AM in the last Rajar figures - a cock-up for which it was forced to apologise only last week?"

Mackenzie claims talkSPORT's audience is nearer eight million than the 2.2 million reported by Rajar.
