Mackenzie quits Hewlett-Packard after one year

Amanda Mackenzie, Hewlett-Packard's European marketing chief, has stepped down after just over a year in the job.

It is understood that Mackenzie has another senior marketing position lined up. However, it is believed that she has not yet signed a contract for the new role.

Mackenzie quit as group marketing director of BT last June to take on the new position of HP's vice-president of marketing for the EMEA region (Marketing, 30 June 2004).

Sources say the role did not live up to Mackenzie's expectations as the company was in transition following its takeover of Compaq, and the remit of the European marketing team had not been clearly defined.

Mackenzie's departure follows a restructure of HP's EMEA marketing team and it is understood that she will not be directly replaced. Instead, existing staff will take on some of her duties.

UK marketing director Neta Tully has day-to-day responsibility for the brand.
