The 51-year-old died on 29 October in hospital with family by his side. Spicer leaves behind his wife Tracey and three boys: Jack, Joe and Harry.
Having been chairman of the MAA between 2009 and 2011, Spicer is credited with beginning the transformation of the trade body, which was formerly known as the Marketing Communications Consultants Association.
Scott Knox, the MAA's managing director, resigned last month after 15 years to relocate to Canada.
Tim Bourne, the MAA’s current chairman, said: "It’s testament to Mike’s commitment and passion for the industry that he not only rose to the top in senior management roles at IMP, Arc, EHS Brann, and Pulse Group, but also made it a priority to use his vast knowledge and experience to help others through his work on the board and as chairman of the MAA.
"Mike will be missed sorely by his industry colleagues and I’m sure you’ll join with me in offering sincere condolences to his family and friends."
Spicer joined IMP Arc (now Leo Burnett) in 1987 as an account executive and rose through the ranks to become managing director in 2003. He left after 20 years in 2007 to become chairman of Media Square for one year, before joining EHS Brann as group managing director for three years.
He then became chief executive of Pulse Group in 2011 and left in 2015 to join B-Street as managing director, before stepping down this year.
Ian Priest, chief executive of Grace Blue and co-founder of VCCP, said Spicer deserves a lot of credit for putting in the foundations of the MAA and for "putting a lot back into the industry he thrived in."
"Throughout his career Mike was one of the most effective team builders and leaders I have ever had the pleasure of working with," Priest added. "People loved working for him and he always brought out the very best in people.
"Clients also really liked him and rated him. His passion for their business, his easy charm and good humour as well as strong creative and strategic skills made him a very effective suit."
A memorial service will be held at 1.30pm on 18 November at Croydon Crematorium in Mitcham Road, Croydon, and then at Old Whitgiftians Rugby Club at Croham Manor Road in South Croydon.
