M2M pitch secures Build-A-Bear win

M2M has won the £2.5m media planning and buying account for Build-A-Bear Workshop, the US chain where customers can create their own teddy bears in-store.

The Omnicom agency beat off competition from rival Carat, while PHD also pitched, but was not short-listed.

The US toy manufacturer has aggressive expansion plans for the UK. In March it acquired all 16 stores from UK rival Bear Factory, partly owned by Hamleys, for $40m (£21.4m).

The company plans to sell 300,000 of its customisable bears this year in the UK as well as expand its chain from 36 to 53 stores.

Established in 1997 by chief executive Maxine Clark, the Missouri-based company has more than 300 stores in 15 countries across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.

Neither M2M nor the marketing team at the company's US headquarters, which handled the review, was prepared to comment.
