M&S holds on to its crown as UK's top undies shop

Marks & Spencer's resurgence in the high street has been put down to a number of factors, including the leadership of Luc Vandevelde and the hiring of top designers such as Yasmin Yusuf.

ompany's total dominance in the underwear market appears to have been vital to recent strong sales.

According to an OMD Snapshots survey of 1188 respondents, the retailer has retained its standing as the de facto provider of underwear to the nation. M&S is the runaway leader with 39% market share. Asda is its nearest competitor with a comparatively paltry 6% share, with high-street players BHS, Matalan, Tesco and Debenhams further behind.

M&S' most recent results showed sales for the 14 weeks to July 6 rising by 9.1% while clothing, footwear and gift sales rose 14.8%.
