M&S heads for New York with Sex and the City range

LONDON - Flamboyant 'Sex and the City' stylist Patricia Field is creating a one-off fashion range for Marks & Spencer, which will hit the retailer's high street stores in October.

Along with 'Sex and the City', Field has also achieved international recognition for her work on TV series 'Ugly Betty' and the film 'The Devil Wears Prada', for which she won two Emmy Awards and an Academy Award nomination in 2006.

Her 35-piece collection for M&S, called Destination Style New York, will include a floral print dress in champagne and black with puff ball skirt, a sophisticated shift style dress in deep turquoise with wide flowing chiffon sleeves, and a black stretch satin corseted halterneck dress.

The range will be sold in M&S's UK stores and on its website, as well as in a number of international outlets.

Some may question whether M&S is ready for the designer's radical style and if its average customer could pull off the clothes that Carrie Bradshaw wears. However, with the much anticipated 'Sex and the City' movie to be released on May 28 it looks set to attract attention.

Field said: "It's just amazing to be working for such an iconic brand as M&S. I really wanted to get involved with a brand who really understood women of all ages and who would closely work with me to develop the range in a way that was right for them.

"I have conceptualised the line as 'Destination Style New York' and it consists of iconic womenswear including matching accessories. I like to see it as expression of the 'democratisation of luxury'."

Kate Bostock, M&S executive director of clothing, said: "We were determined to have exclusivity on it not only in the UK but also in our international markets, as it is such an amazing collection and a big 'first' for us.

"This year is the perfect time for this unique opportunity with the 'Sex and the City' movie hitting screens to showcase a range specially designed by the woman who created such amazing looks in so many films and TV series."
