The campaign will consist of an online survey, classified ads in national and regional press, media partnerships and promotions.
The aim is to find out how vengeful the UK is as a nation and to pull together readers' tales of revenge.
Lycos is working with Jackie Cooper PR on the campaign, which is highlighting the fact that more and more people are turning to emails and the internet to exact revenge on friends and family.
Nicole Morse, marketing director for Lycos UK, said: "We are looking for light-hearted tales of revenge and will be placing classified ads asking people to write in and tells us their own experiences. We're also running an online survey in the hope of gaining an insight into what people think about revenge and who they'd like to take revenge on."
The information gathered will be used to generate media coverage for Lycos's viral site by providing a snapshot of the nation's views on revenge.
The lycos viral chart, which is found at www.viral.lycos.co.uk, has attracted more than 500,000 visitors and has grown from a marketing initiative into a commercial site used by other brands to launch their own viral campaigns.
