Lycos appoints MKTG for multimillion-pound global database task

LONDON - Internet portal Lycos has appointed New York-based database marketing firm MKTG Services to handle the multimillion-pound task of managing and marketing its permission-based email and postal database worldwide.

Lycos's permission-based database includes 5.2m email records and 3.3m postal records. The data is obtained from Lycos-owned websites worldwide such as Gamesville.com, Tripod.com, Angelfire.com, Lycos Finance and FoxSports.com.

As part of the deal MKTG will provide additional data on demographic, lifestyle and ethnicity to Lycos customers.

The database will be available as part of a range of direct marketing services offered by Lycos Direct Marketing Services.

Dean Macchi, director of direct marketing at Terra Lycos, said: "The addition of an enhanced Lycos customer list will add the opportunity for all advertisers to follow through on advertising campaigns through customised direct relationship marketing."

Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, Lycos is owned by Terra Lycos. Terra Lycos has websites in 20 languages in 43 countries, which reach 115m unique users a month. The Lycos network has websites in 26 countries.
