Lowe lines up Ogilvy New York's Wright for global role

LONDON - Tony Wright, a British-born senior manager at Ogilvy & Mather in New York, is being courted for a top job at the strife-torn Lowe network.

It is unclear what role Wright, the O&M agency's chief strategy and planning officer, will occupy at Lowe, which is currently struggling to get back on course after a string of multimillion-pound account losses.

However, it is believed his main task would be to shoulder some of the workload of Jerry Judge, the network's chief executive, who has been under intense pressure from its Interpublic parent.

Wright, one of the first British planners to work in the US more than 15 years ago, is regarded as possessing formidable credentials for the job. He has been a top global account manager as well as having had his name above the door of his own agency, Berlin Cameron Wright.

At the same time, Wright's UK background would stand him in good stead if Lowe presses ahead with plans to move its headquarters from the US and back to London.

"Tony is a genuine internationalist," a former associate said this week.

"Not only has he worked in a lot of different markets around the world but he has a strength of will and the ability to pour oil on troubled waters."

Wright, who began his career as an account planner at Britain's Hedger Mitchell Stark, joined O&M in 1996. He previously had spells at a number of agencies, and played a key role on the bunny campaign for Energizer batteries at Chiat Day in Los Angeles.
