Lost gets bigger following for second series debut

LONDON - Channel 4 will be looking forward to more bumper ratings when the second outing of 'Lost' makes it way to UK shores after debuting on the ABC network in the US with 23.4m viewers, the biggest audience for the show so far.

According to figures from Nielsen Media Research, the second series debut of 'Lost' on Wednesday night topped the first series finale, which pulled in 20.7m in May.

The second series opens with more dramatic revelations on the mysterious island.

The show also reached 25% of the 18-49 demographic of available audience that night, bringing good news for advertisers.

The first episode of the second series easily beat a stellar line-up of US shows including NBC's 'The Apprentice' starring Martha Stewart, UPN's 'America's Next Top Model' and Fox's second outing of lawyer drama 'Head Cases'.

Channel 4 has so far enjoyed massive ratings success with the series since it debuted with a peak of 6.4m viewers in August, the highest to date for a US import.

Figures for the show have averaged around the 5m mark, outperforming hit shows including 'Big Brother' and 'Desperate Housewives'.
