London jubilant as IOC tours 2012 bid venues

Venues and event companies involved in last month's visit to the capital by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should be proud of their achievement in staging a four-day event to showcase London's 2012 Olympic Bid, described by inspectors as 'impressive'.

This was the assessment of Visit London commercial director David Hornby, who presented the bid's accommodation proposals to the 13 IOC delegates during their tour of the city. "We shouldn't get carried away by aspects of the tour, such as the Buckingham Palace dinner, as both President Putin and Jacques Chirac will entertain the IOC committee. But the behind-the-scenes work that went into staging this four-day event was recognised and should be applauded - from the tours of each host venue through to the projection of 'Back the Bid' images onto London's landmarks and the visitor attraction in Trafalgar Square," said Hornby.

Agency Live was responsible for the production of 17 presentations over two days on different aspects of the London 2012 bid. The delegates spent a day visiting the King's Cross tunnel in Stratford, organised by Brand & Deliver Productions, before splitting into groups to visit all the potential Olympic venues including Excel, Wembley and the Millennium Dome.

Excel chief executive Jamie Buchan said: "The feedback from the IOC was that we'd past every test."

A London 2012 Bid Experience, designed and built by Vibe and Serious Stages, helped raise public awareness. Funded by Ballymore Properties, the walk-through project and 9m-high statue spent two weeks in Trafalgar Square before moving on to Canary Wharf.
