What was the event?
The launching of the Barracuda – The London Eye Barracuda – on Tuesday 24 May in bright sunshine along the river Thames. More than 200 people attended, all of whom had been randomly selected from Merlin’s LinkedIn connections. Firms including KPMG, Banks Sadler and the Ultimate Event Company attended.
How was the brief met?
Guests had a choice of meeting on the pier below the London Eye or at Tower Pier and were greeted by Paparazzi-style photographers before being given a choice of drinks as they boarded the vessel. Once on board guests were allowed to roam freely and mingle giving the event a pleasantly informal atmosphere.
A number of mini-surprises were on show, including a Louis Armstrong impersonator and a close-up magician, who was particularly impressive. The usual Captain Jack Sparrow look-a-like was also present and a couple of toned topless sailors who scented the cruiser with summer fragrances and, visually at least, pleased at least half of the 200-strong guestlist.
Rhubarb Food Design created a ‘surrealist’ menu of canapés that included sweet dim sum desert and bowls of sea bass with edible flowers. A selection of drinks, including apple Martinis, was well received throughout.
