Cabinet Stories has travelled to three venues around London since the beginning of 2016, bringing a museum experience to those who are unable to access a museum in day-to-day life. It is a collaboration between the Centre For Fashion Curation and the Social Responsibility team at the London College of Fashion.
The tour launched in a women's prison, then moved on to The East London NHS Foundation Trust for patients with borderline personality disorder before moving on to a care home for the elderly - Anchor Silk Court - in Bethnal Green.
The project is now residing at the homelessness charity community, Emmaus Greenwich, Poplar shop, which is the first time Cabinet Stories has been open to the public. The exhibition explores different aspects of fashion, including historical dress and traditional craft techniques that are still used in modern fashion and design. There are seven themed exhibitions, and each one is displayed inside a cabinet. It is also offering a programme of free workshops and talks.
At Emmaus, all exhibitions are on display at the same time, and will feature designs from Charlotte Olympia, Peter Jensen, Faustine Steinmetz and Phoebe English. Peter Jensen has also donated fabric for a limited edition tote bag, which will be sold at the charity shop. The bag will cost £16 and all proceeds will be donated to the Emmaus community. The exhibition runs until 2 November.
