
If the bid is successful, the championships would take place in July 2017, one month after the World Athletics Championships which
Mayor of London Boris Johnson submitted the bid to the International Paralympic Committee. It includes a commitment to use volunteers at the championships, building on the major role played by 70,000 volunteers in the Olympics and Paralympics this summer.
Johnson said: "The huge appetite for tickets to the 2012 Games this summer shows the level of excitement Paralympic sport can generate, and forever changed the way we think about disabled sport. The 2017 IPC World Championships present a fantastic opportunity for us to build on that phenomenal surge of enthusiasm, and welcome back some of the world’s greatest sportsmen and women to the Olympic Stadium."
It was also revealed yesterday that 319,000 tickets for the London Olympics and Paralympics were unsold, most of them for early rounds of the Olympic football. Out of a total of 11.3 million tickets available, 10.99 million were sold.
The data, revealed by , shows 76.3% of Olympic tickets and 91% of Paralympic tickets were sold through the UK ticketing process.
The Olympic Park will hold its first event next summer when it opens for the Ride London two-day festival of cycling.
