Olympic organisers have scheduled several events for London 2012 Diversity Week (8-14 March) to demonstrate how they are building diversity and inclusion into their plans for the Olympic Games.

The programme begins with the ‘Everyone's 2012' conference, which aims to ‘raise awareness of London 2012's work in areas including volunteering, procurement, community relations and service delivery, and the opportunities that are available for communities across the UK'.

Other events include the screening of Memory Marathon, a film about a man's 26-mile journey through the five host boroughs; the Olympic Delivery Authority Contractor Diversity Awards 2010, which recognises the efforts made by contractors on the Olympic Park to promote equality; and a business event highlighting opportunities for catering, cleaning and waste SMEs in the five host boroughs.

Olympic Delivery Authority chair John Armitt said: "The areas around the Olympic Park in east London are among the most diverse in the country and we are working hard to ensure that local people are able to access training and employment opportunities. A fifth of the current Olympic Park workforce lives in one of the five local boroughs. Working with our contractors, we are also breaking down some of the barriers and stereotypes that have traditionally existed in the construction industry, for example our ‘Women in Construction' project has seen 129 women placed into work on the site."
